"Go Heavy!"

John Wood and the XL Trap Bar
The Trap Bar "XL" on the Left, and "Classic" on the right

The XL Trap Bar - Fully Loaded
The XL Trap Bar - Fully Loaded
Ask anybody who is serious about training and they will all agree that the Gerard Trap Bar is without question one of the "must have" pieces of training equipment. And that's one of the biggest reasons I brought it back...

Whether for Shrugs, Deadlifts, or Rows, there's no question that The Trap Bar is one of the best options for building leg and back strength since it moves the weight closer to the body's center of gravity - this means safer and more productive workouts for anyone who trains with one.

The classic Gerard Trap Bar has 10 inches of loading space on each end which allows more than enough weight for almost any trainee for all Trap Bar exercises.

Depending on the width of your barbell plates and your choice of collars, you should easily be able to load up the classic trap bar with around 600 pounds or so...

However, we have had a few very strong folks request a Trap Bar that they can load up a little bit heavier, so we are now proudly making the *NEW* Trap Bar XL available.

The Trap Bar XL and the Classic Trap Bar (shown in the pictures to the left) both feature:

  • Heavy steel construction

  • 1.95-inch lathed loading areas so that your plates will actually fit

  • Precision diamond point knurled handles for a sure grip every time

  • Zinc plating for durability over many hard workouts
  • The only difference, as you may have guessed by now, is that the Trap Bar "XL" (as in Extra-Length) has five more inches of loading area per side (from 10" to a full 15"), so if you think you might need to load up your Trap Bar with almost Half a Ton, the XL is for you.

On the bottom picture you will see the XL Trap Bar fully loaded with York 45-pound plates. We could comfortably fit 10 of them and possibly another 5-pound or 2.5-pound plate in addition to the Okie Collars. Without including the smaller plates that's 950 pounds (900 in plates, 45 for the bar, and 5 for the collars). If you really have a burning desire to "go heavy" then this is the Trap Bar for you.

BONUS Training Information to Help You
Get the Most from Your XL Trap Bar

One of our central tenets here at Trap Bar Training is that a great piece of training equipment should have great training information to go along with it. There are definitely right and wrong ways to incorporate the XL Gerard Trap Bar into your training, and you'll want to know what they are in order to maximize the benefits you can get from your Trap Bar.

That's why, with every order for an XL Trap Bar, you will receive at NO extra cost an incredible set of training materials that will help you reach your strength goals. You'll learn from some of the leading voices in Trap Bar training - included in this set are:
  • Using the Trap Bar to Get Stronger (for the past twenty-two years) by Al Gerard - In this brand new book, the developer of the Trap Bar shares information about the history and development of the Trap Bar, and supplies a complete 3-stage 9-week worout program centered around the Gerard Trap Bar.
  • Dr. Ken's Trap Bar Workout by Dr. Ken Leistner - Like Al Gerard, Dr. Ken has been using the Trap Bar for over two decades and knows first-hand the benefits to be gained from regular use. He also knows what works - and in this booklet he outlines proper form for various Trap Bar movements and supplies a suggested workout of his own.
  • The 5 x 2 Trap Bar Training Program by John Wood - In this special report, I expand on some of the topics I've talked about before with regards to incorporating the Gerard Trap Bar into a broader strength training program.

  • These two books and special report are offered to you exclusively through Trap Bar Training and its affiliate site, Old Time Strongman - and they're FREE with every Trap Bar purchase (the set of training materials is $19.99 if purchased separately).
